Katey was born in La Grande, Oregon to Michel and Kristina and has a younger sister, Sally. She spent most of her life there before moving to Portland for school, where she graduated from Portland State University with a degree in graphic design in 2009. Following graduation, she moved to Seattle for a job.
Ryan was born in Portland, Oregon to Glen and Amy and has two younger siblings, Callie and Cody. He spent most of his life in Portland where he was fortunate enough to grow up with both sides of his extended family, including Don and Joan Baggerly and Bill and Carole Scharwatt. He was a musician for six years following high school.
They met in 2008 in Portland, Oregon, but did not start dating until January 2010, after Katey was living in Seattle. They drove back and forth to see each other for around four months, before Katey moved to Reno. Ryan followed her to Reno in June, where they lived for 2 years before moving to Austin, where they live currently. Ryan is currently attending the University of Texas at Austin in the biology program, and Katey works for Sizmek as a creative support specialist. Their little family includes two cats: a princess named Amelie and a bully named Cid.
